Combined synoptic and regional weather patterns affecting atmospheric Poaceae pollen concentrations in Sydney, Australia

چکیده
Abstract Inhalation of grass pollen can result in acute exacerbation asthma, prompting questions about how reaches metropolitan areas. We establish typical atmospheric Poaceae (grass) concentrations recorded at two samplers within the Sydney basin eastern Australia and analyse their correlation with each other meteorological variables. determine effect synoptic regional airflow on transport during a period extreme (≥ 100 grains m −3 air) concentration characterise meteorology. Finally, we tested hypothesis that most captured by originated from local sources. Fifteen months daily data, three days hourly fifteen meteorology locations were used. Weather Research Forecasting (WRF), Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) modelling conditional bivariate probability functions (CBPF) used to assess transport. Most collected was estimated be sources under low wind speeds. Extreme rare, there no strong evidence support long-distance into or across greater area. Daily average mask sudden increases pollen, which may put significant strain healthcare system. Mapping accurate prediction are first steps an advanced warning system necessary pre-empt resources needed season.

Influence of meteorological parameters in hourly patterns of grass (Poaceae) pollen concentrations.
Hourly grass pollen concentrations were recorded over a 10-year study period at an aerobiological station of Badajoz (SW Spain). The record was carried out by means of a Burkard spore trap. Meteorological data were used to find correlation with the hourly patterns in the months of principal concentration. The observed variations were found to be due to independent contributions of patterns corr...
متن کاملSynoptic taxonomy of Cortaderia Stapf (Danthonioideae, Poaceae)
Cortaderia (Poaceae; Danthonioideae) is a medium-sized genus of C3 tussock grasses, widespread in the temperate to tropic-alpine regions of South America. It is particularly important in the subalpine and alpine zones of the Andes. We revised the classification of the genus, and recognize 17 species grouped into five informal groups. We describe one new species, Cortaderia echinata H.P.Linder, ...
متن کاملLung cancer patterns of care in south western Sydney, Australia.
BACKGROUND Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in New South Wales (NSW). There is a significantly higher incidence of lung cancer in the South Western Sydney Area Health Service (SWSAHS) than the NSW average. The aim of this study was to document patterns of lung cancer care for SWSAHS residents. METHODS SWSAHS residents diagnosed with lung cancer in 1993 and 1996 were identifie...
متن کاملContribution of pollen to atmospheric ice nuclei concentrations
Recent studies have suggested that the icenucleating ability of some types of pollen is derived from non-proteinaceous macromolecules. These macromolecules may become dispersed by the rupturing of the pollen grain during wetting and drying cycles in the atmosphere. If true, this mechanism might prove to be a significant source of ice nuclei (IN) concentrations when pollen is present. Here we te...
متن کاملPoaceae pollen concentrations in the atmosphere of three inland Croatian sites (2003-2004).
The aim of the study was to determine the length of Poaceae pollen season, intradiurnal, daily and monthly pollen variation, and the effect of some meteorological parameters on atmospheric pollen concentration, at three monitoring sites in inland Croatia during the 2003-2004 period. Seven-day Hirst volumetric pollen and spore traps were used for pollen sampling. At all three monitoring sites co...
